HOWTO Change a Standard Product to a Variable Product
- Take note of the current regular and student price.
- Take note of the downloadable files associated with the product.
- Change to Variable Product.
- Click on the Attributes Tab
- Remove “Download” attribute.
- Add the Support Level global attribute.
- Check “Visible on the product page” and “Used for variations”.
- Click “Select All button” to select all values.
- Click “Save attributes” button.
- Click on the Variations Tab
- Select “Add variations” dropdown: “Create variations from all attributes”. Press Go button.
- Standard Support: Click enabled, downloadable and virtual checkmarks and add the default price.
- Add the description: “Standard Support provides email-based support through our ticketing system. Choose Priority Support for front of line, screenshare-based support.”
- Re-add the files.
- Priority Support: Click downloadable checkmark and add the default price + $100.
- Add the description: “Choose this level of product support for front of line, screenshare-based assistance. This level of support was previously only available to REFM consulting clients.”
- Re-add the files.
- Click the “Save changes” button to save the variation.
- Press the blue “Update” button to save the product.
- Go to WC Role Based Price Editor section.
- In the “Select a variation” dropdown, select the Standard Support Variation and click Enable Role Base Price.
- Click the student role and add the student price.
- Click the “Save Price” button.
- In the “Select a variation” dropdown, select the Priority Support Variation and click Enable Role Base Price.
- Click the student role and add the student price + $100.
- Click the “Save Price” button.
- In the “Product Short Description metabox, remove the price. For example change, “Academic Price – $299.00” to “Academic Price”.
- Press the blue “Update” button to save the product.
